Rxindi provides a set of plain-text statements that can make any InDesign document into a dynamically processable document. Using the Rxindi InDesign Extension you can choose an Excel, CSV, XML or JSON file and, based on its contents process a template document repeatedly each time generating a different output document.

This functionality is sometimes called a ”Data Merge” or in more general terms ”Document Composition”. InDesign has built-in functionality for data merges via the Data Merge tool and via tagging and XML import but the system Rxindi provides is much more powerful; It allows a multitude of data source input formats and allows for true dynamic behavior by providing build in statements for explicit conditional and repeating behavior as well as the notion of reusable Components.

No external tools or complex programming environments required to add Rxindi statements to an InDesign document. Documents with Rxindi statements are completely portable. There are no special extensions or plugins needed to open, edit or save your document. In order to process the statements you of course will need the Rxindi extension. Because Rxindi statements are so lightweight, you can easily use Rxindi alongside traditional data merges or additional external tools.
