This simple script is another crucial addition to the arsenal of any InDesigner working on long documents. How often have you needed to change the style of a paragraph because it follows another paragraph? For example, say you have a “Body Text” paragraph style for your body text. Now, according to standard book design practice, the body text paragraph following a subheading should have no indent.
Problem is that InDesign offers no convenient way of searching through the document and changing a given paragraph style based on the paragraph style that comes before it.
That’s where the script “Change Consecutive Paragraph Styles” comes in. Here’s a screenshot:
It’s actually even easier than it looks. Simply place your cursor in the first paragraph. The script will populate the dropdown dialogs with the current paragraph in (1), the next paragraph in (2), and (3) is for you to choose. (Clicking on undo [command+z (ctrl+z on a PC)] once will undo all the changes in one go even if 500 paragraphs were changed when you ran the script.)
